The poly is to provide an extra layer of water resistance just in case a glass is set on it. Having said that I wouldn't throw my keys on this table and rub them around or set glasses on it regularly. I'd put them in a bin, etc on the table for peace of mind about the upkeep of the high gloss without maintenance. The steel trapezoid legs are hand made by an Esty member and I polished in a swirl shine finish that has been clear coated with gloss lacquer.
The table top is just under 2 inches thick. The bug holes indicative of ambrosia are filled with red epoxy to contrast the natural teal color of the bug tunnels.
This is a modern show piece that could grab attention in a large hallway, behind a couch, or even in the kitchen as a side table. Epoxy isn't cheap and the process involves a lot of materials and time. This is currently a hobby and I'm not trying make a profit at this time. My home isn't big enough to keep everything I build. There's no major defects with the table or bubbles in the epoxy that I can find. It is 100% hand made and has the character and uniqueness to set it apart from a manufactured product. The table top comes off the legs, so it should fit in a vehicle that has 60" x 20" x 2" of space plus the legs that are about 18" x 28" x 2". Let me know of any questions.
